Ultion Lock Review: Is It Worth the Premium Price?

The Ultion has become one of the most talked-about lock cylinders in the UK, marketed heavily as the ultimate anti-snap solution with a bold £1,000 burglary guarantee. But is it worth the premium price tag? As locksmiths who fit them regularly, here's our honest assessment.

Build quality is excellent. The Ultion uses a 'lockdown mode' feature — if an attack is detected, the cylinder locks down completely, preventing any further manipulation. The inner workings are protected by a molybdenum core (one of the hardest metals available), and the cylinder carries Sold Secure Diamond certification.

In terms of security features, the Ultion ticks every box: anti-snap, anti-pick, anti-drill, anti-bump, anti-extraction. It's tested to TS007 three-star standard (the highest level) without needing a matching handle — most other cylinders only achieve one star alone and need a two-star handle to reach the required standard.

The £1,000 burglary guarantee is genuine but has conditions. The lock must be fitted by an approved locksmith, registered online within 14 days, and the break-in must be through the Ultion-fitted door. Read the terms carefully.

The downsides? Price — Ultion cylinders cost significantly more than other quality anti-snap options like the Avocet ABS. Key duplication is restricted (which is a security feature but can be inconvenient). And for most residential properties, a good anti-snap cylinder at half the price provides more than adequate protection.
