What Does 'No Call-Out Charge' Actually Mean?
You'll see 'no call-out charge' advertised by many locksmiths, but what does it actually mean in practice? Understanding locksmith pricing helps you avoid being overcharged and ensures you get fair value for money.
A call-out charge (or call-out fee) is a fixed fee that some locksmiths charge simply for attending your property — before they've even looked at the problem. This fee is charged regardless of whether they do any work. Some companies charge £50-£100+ just to turn up.
'No call-out charge' means exactly what it says: there's no fee for the locksmith to attend. You only pay for the actual work carried out. If the locksmith arrives and assesses the job, and you decide not to proceed, you pay nothing.
However, 'no call-out charge' doesn't mean 'no charge.' You'll still pay for the labour and any parts (locks, cylinders, etc.) used. A reputable locksmith will provide a clear, fixed quote before starting work so you know exactly what you'll pay.
At Oldham Locksmiths, we never charge a call-out fee. We provide a price range over the phone, confirm a fixed price when we assess the job in person, and only proceed when you've agreed to the price. No surprises, no hidden costs. Call 07949 139 475.
